Health and Safety policy
Movers Fulham Health and Safety Policy
Movers Fulham is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and unloading of goods.
We recognise that professional moving and handling work involves physical, driving and site-related hazards. Our goal is to prevent accidents, injuries, ill health and property damage by planning our work carefully, training our people thoroughly and continuously improving our systems.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety within Movers Fulham rests with senior management. They ensure that this policy is implemented, reviewed and resourced appropriately. Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day health and safety management on jobs, including briefing teams, checking equipment, and monitoring working practices.
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow company procedures, use equipment correctly, report hazards and incidents promptly and cooperate fully with any investigation or corrective action.
Risk Assessment and Safe Work Planning
Before each removal project, Movers Fulham assesses the potential risks relating to the property, access routes, customer requirements and items to be moved. Where appropriate, a site visit or detailed discussion is carried out to identify specific hazards such as restricted staircases, heavy or awkward items, parking and traffic issues, and any fragile structures.
Based on the risk assessment, we plan suitable methods of work, allocate appropriate staffing levels, select suitable equipment and agree any special control measures. These measures may include using additional lifting aids, arranging safe parking and loading areas, or scheduling work at times that reduce congestion and risk to the public.
Manual Handling and Lifting Safety
Manual handling is a key area of risk in the removals industry. Movers Fulham is committed to minimising manual handling risks through careful planning, the use of equipment and staff training. Where reasonably practicable we avoid unnecessary lifting and carrying by using trolleys, dollies, ramps, lifting straps and other aids.
Our teams are trained in safe lifting techniques, including assessing the load, team lifting for heavy or awkward items, keeping loads close to the body, avoiding twisting and maintaining clear communication between colleagues. No employee is required to lift or carry any item they reasonably believe to be unsafe or beyond their capability.
Vehicle, Driving and Transport Safety
Movers Fulham maintains its vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition, with regular inspections and servicing in line with legal and manufacturer requirements. Drivers must hold valid licences for the vehicles they operate and are expected to drive safely, courteously and within speed limits at all times.
Loads are secured carefully to prevent movement during transit. Drivers must carry out pre-use vehicle checks, report any defects immediately and not operate any vehicle they believe to be unsafe. Journey planning takes account of realistic travel times, traffic conditions and rest breaks to help prevent fatigue.
Safe Use of Equipment and Materials
We provide appropriate equipment for moving and protecting goods, including trolleys, blankets, straps, ramps and tools. All equipment is checked regularly and used only for its intended purpose. Defective equipment is removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Employees receive instructions on the safe use, storage and transportation of equipment and packing materials. Where tools are required for disassembly or reassembly of furniture or fixtures, they are used in accordance with manufacturer guidance and company procedures.
Protecting Customers, the Public and Property
Movers Fulham undertakes its work in a way that minimises risk to customers, neighbours and members of the public. Where necessary, we establish safe working areas, manage access to properties, and take care when moving items in shared spaces such as corridors, stairwells and pavements.
Protective materials are used to reduce the risk of damage to floors, walls, doors and fixtures. Our teams are instructed to act with care and consideration at all times, to keep routes clear of trip hazards as far as reasonably practicable, and to report any accidental damage immediately so that it can be addressed appropriately.
Training, Information and Supervision
All Movers Fulham staff receive induction training covering our health and safety expectations, safe working procedures, emergency arrangements, and reporting of incidents and near misses. Role-specific training, including manual handling, equipment use and vehicle operation, is provided as required.
Supervisors monitor work on site to ensure that procedures are followed and to provide guidance where needed. We encourage an open culture in which employees feel able to raise concerns, suggest improvements and highlight potential risks without fear of blame.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
Any accident, injury, near miss, property damage or dangerous occurrence must be reported to a supervisor or manager as soon as practically possible. Movers Fulham investigates incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency arrangements, including first aid provision and fire safety considerations, are made for each job in line with its scale and nature. Employees are briefed on emergency procedures relevant to the property and environment in which they are working.
Wellbeing and Fitness for Work
Movers Fulham recognises the importance of worker wellbeing in maintaining a safe working environment. Employees are expected to present themselves fit for work, free from the influence of alcohol or drugs and capable of performing their duties safely. Any health concerns that may affect the ability to work safely should be reported confidentially to management.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is monitored on an ongoing basis and formally reviewed at regular intervals or following any significant change in our operations or relevant legislation. We use feedback from employees, customers, incident investigations and site inspections to improve our systems, training and working practices.
By following this policy and working together, Movers Fulham aims to provide a safe and professional removals service while protecting the health, safety and welfare of everyone involved in or affected by our activities.
